No. 6 Syracuse edged the No. 3 Maryland women’s lacrosse team 10-9 to snap the Terps’ 36-game home winning streak Saturday at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
Despite holding a distinct advantage in nearly every statistical category including shots in which it trumped the Orange 30-20, Maryland (5-2, 1-1 ACC) picked up its second loss this season. It was the first regular season loss at home in head coach Cathy Reese’s six-year tenure. Sophomore Beth Glaros led Maryland with a hat trick and four draw controls. Katie Schwarzmann and Karri Ellen Johnson added two goals apiece. Brittany Dipper racked up eight saves in the cage.
Gary Gait had his team put the ball into the deep freeze in the 4th quarter, shortening the game. This is the only way teams can compete with the depth of the Terrapins. We are far better off dealing with this now then later in the season.
