Some observations of a great weekend at the MGN event:
Many of the players discussed a whole new feeling of togetherness this year amongst the players. To me this was very evident throughout the weekend.
Friday night the 2 coordinators spoke to the assembled guest. Mike Locksley the offensive coordinator expressed the many options a CJ Brown type QB gives the team. I do believe from his comments that his offense will be much more explosive then last year.
From hearing and talking to the defensive Coordinator Brian Stewart one thing is certain, he believes in high pressure on the QB and feature backs. His resume is off the charts and his NFL reputation speaks for itself. For many reasons there is no way the defense will compare a little to last season’s.
Here are some of the standouts at the scrimmage which I viewed from the playing field:
WR Marcus Leak was outstanding stretching 2 passes into touchdowns. Kevin Dorsey seemed to be CJ’s deep target. Devonte Campbell had some nice catches over the middle.
Minus one interception, CJ Brown’s passes were on mark –including several thrown on the run and some perfectly thrown out passes.
De’Onte Arnett should turn out to be a tremendous asset on the offensive line.
The most improve player to me was running back Justus Pickett. He seemed much quicker and more powerful.
I talked to Joe Vellano and he assured me he should be back as good as ever in 4 or 5 weeks.
Fullback Tyler Cierski was excellent on short yardage situations.
After watching one of the backup place-kickers missed an extra point, I remarked to Stan Goldstein and Rick Jaklitsch that i could split the uprights even though I haven’t kicked in over 5 years . I got my chance in the interactive past of the weekend and here is what happened: IMG_0823-1
All in all, I anxiously await the 2012 season!!!
