During his exit interview on Wednesday, Blake said he was told by Coach Mike Brown and general manager Mitch Kupchak that he needs to be more selfish.
“The only thing they told me is be a little more selfish maybe and be more aggressive,” Blake said.
Apparently that mandate hasn’t quite sunk in yet.
When asked whether he wants to be a starter next season, Blake said that he wants to do whatever will benefit the Lakers.
“I think I’m at a point in my career where I really want to do what’s best for the team,” he said. “If I’m what’s best for the team to be starting, I would love it, that would be great. If it’s coming off the bench, that’s fine with me, too.”
based on that sounds like steve blake froze himself out of times. and keep in mind blake was a bench player. when the lakers waived derek fisher they didn’t give blake the starting job. they went out and got sessions from cleveland to start. steve blake was never a first, second or third option on the lakers.
