Maryland was not able to reel in five-star defensive tackle Eddie Goldman in the 2012 class, but that apparently didn’t stop the Terps staff from working Goldman’s old high school. Maryland just picked up a trio of prospects out of Friendship Collegiate Academy led by 4-star offensive linemanDerwin Gray.
With Gray, Maryland is getting a big, athletic OL, who could potentially fit as an O-Tackle or a guard. We do see a player who still needs more development before he can truly be counted on to contribute, but the tools are there to work with. The four-star demonstrates good flexibility, balance, and agility as well as good initial quickness to get into defenders or down the line as a puller. He needs to improve pad level and hand placement and better put his size and strength to work for him, but he has the ability to develop into a good run blocker at the college level. As a pass blocker he can set quickly and demonstrates the feet and balance to be able to mirror rushers and handle quick changes in direction.
