Dropped Ball By Andino Leads To O’s Defeat in Seattle—Super Effort By Hammel Wasted

Let’s cut to the chase. After Jason Hammel overcame various fielding faux pas, the O’s entered the bottom of the 7th holding a 3-1 lead. The leadoff batter walked. The next batter struck out on a 3-2 pitch as Wieters threw a perfect strike to Andino to throw out out the runner trying to steal 2nd. 2 outs no one on. Wait a minute, Robert Andino dropped the ball. Jim Palmer went nuts as did any Oriole fan suffering through this latest malaise. That was that. What I find strange is that in the post game report Dempsey and Jim Hunter failed to mention the play. Why? Andino went 0-4 committed an error and for some reason was not charged an error on the dropped throw. In all my years of following the O’s I have never seen such a poor fielding team. Thome was 1-3 with a walk.
