Georgetown Lacrosse Lands a Gem in the Hiring of Kevin Warne

Kevin has been the defensive coach of the Terps for the last 2 years. Do I need to say anymore about this young man. It is going to be brutal to lose him, but no one deserves a head coaching position more thenKevin. Believe it’s only a short matter of time before Goergetown lacrosse returns to the elite of lacrosse.

Kevin Warne has been named the head coach of the Georgetown men’s lacrosse team, the school announced Tuesday morning. The release confirms early Tuesday morning reports by IL’s Christian Swezey (via The Washington Post) and Quint Kessenich. Warne’s hire comes after associate head coach Matt Kerwick left the program

Warne has risen quickly in the coaching ranks over the past five years, since helping take UMBC to the 2007 NCAA Quarterfinals and then teaming up with John Tillman at Harvard and Maryland. He helped lead the Terps to the last two NCAA Finals. The defensive specialist and leader of the Terps’ popular Mosh Pit sideline last spring is a popular figure among the coaching fraternity.

Brian Reese, Chesapeake Bayhawks GM
“As a Maryland alum, I hate seeing Kevin leave the Terp program. That being said, I think Georgetown made an excellent hire. Coach Warne is a passionate guy who knows how to put his players in the best position to succeed. He truly cares about the student athletes and they will love playing for him.”
