The reigning national champion Maryland will open the season No. 1 in the 2012 Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll for the second straight season.
The Terps have been the preseason No. 1 team in three of the last four years. The top-ranked Terrapins will face 10 of the preseason top-25 teams and they will open this season with a pair of 2011 NCAA Tournament teams in No. 16 California and No. 11 Stanford.
Maryland will play at California on Friday, Aug. 24 at 8 p.m. ET. On Sunday, Aug. 26, the Terrapins will take on Stanford at 4 p.m. ET in Stanford, Calif.
