After trailing by two through nearly an hour of play, the Maryland field hockey team pushed No. 3 Old Dominion to the last second, but fell 2-1 at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex Friday night.
The Terps (2-1) trailed by two at the break, then held possession in their offensive third of the field through much of the second half, but couldn’t convert until the 60th minute. Sophomore Katie Gerzabek took a pass from senior Megan Frazer and dribbled just inside the line of the circle near the right elbow. She cracked a hard shot to get the Terrapins on the board.
After pulling starting goalkeeper Natalie Hunter out of the cage with five minutes to play, the Terrapins were awarded three penalty corners in the final two minutes. On the first, Janessa Pope’s shot was blocked, then on the second, Frazer’s shot was saved by Old Dominion keeper Friederike Jahns. On the final one, with the clock at 00:00, Ali McEvoy’s shot was blocked to end the game.
