Just a tremendous game for my first time taking it in in the Press Box at Camden Yards– Thx to the O’s and Monica Barlow for letting me cover such a crucial game for the O’s. The entire Press experience was superb.
Manny Machado’s play in the top of the 9th was one for the ages. I am just going to assume you saw it because if you missed this Oriole game I am not sure of your role as a Bird fan. Buck and Manny pointed out that it was incredible that JJ was actually covering 3rd when Manny made the charge to the ball. Manny is 20 years old and had the instinct to pull off what could be remembered as the play of the year or in the case of the Orioles the play of the decade.
Once again Nate McLouth came through with a monster hit. I will admit that I 2nd guessed Buck inserting Nate as the leadoff hitter but I am learning to know my role and keep my mouth shut.
Buck Showalter post game Memo-31
Buck might be the only manager in baseball who would have left his guy with 2nd and 33rd. 1 out in the 6th. Miquel got out of the jam.
Buck also had the confidence to come back with Strop to pitch the 8th. No runs 1 hit
I will not 2nd guess Buck Showalter—ever —his instincts are unreal.
A first inning catch by BJ Upton on a Adam Jones poke saved Tampa from an old fashioned butt whipping.
The game had all the tension of a playoff game because it essentially was. The O’s are still tied with the Yanks for 1st and now are 3 games up on Tampa with 20 left to play!!!
Derek Jeter tweaked his ankle tonight though Joe “The Headhunter” Girardi thought his SS won’t miss a game.
It was amazing to see the 2 starters struggle but escape the early innings. Once again the Orioles bullpen was just a little bit better.
Something about this win and this team has a magical touch to it. These games and season seem like a dream. As for now let me continue to dream and please “Wake me up when September ends”

hardy is supposed to be covering third though most guys s..s would have watched the play and if thy went to third would have gotten there late. he went to third as soon as the ball was hit. gonzo didn’t have his best stuff but kept us in the game . his fastball was down 3-4 mph from what he normally throws. great play by manny. is he 20 going on 30? mclouth i think has been on base 6 times in three games since taking over for nick in the leadoff spot. that’s pretty good on base % probably .400. o’s 2-1 since nick’s thumb injury
