O’s Suffer Brutal Loss as 4 DPs Lead to 3-2 Defeat–Betemit Reinjures Wrist

Ouch –this one really hurt. The O’s had a chance to gain undisputed possession of 1st place after the Yankees lost to Tampa but just could not come up with the big hit.

What worries me is that Wieters came up limping in the 9th after beating out an infield hit. He also banged his thumb on the helmet of an Atletic in the 8th.

The O’s had the leadoff man on 7 times but continued to fail to advance the runner.

Only a few superb defensive plays by JJ Hardy, anLew Ford and Marl Reynolds kept this game close.

Joe Saunders pitched a decent 6 innings but not o the level of his 13-4 career record at Oakland.

Wilson Betemit reinjured his wrist in batting practice and will probably be out for the year. The O’s were forced to use Endy Chavez as a pinch hitter in the 9th and Chavez struck out.

Jake Arietta pitched a strong 7th and 8th getting 5 strikeouts.

In the 9th, Mark Reynolds just missed a 2 Run HR.

Zach Britton takes the mound Saturday night against Jarrod Parker.

give credit to the a’s pitchers and scouting report. they made great pitches when the o’s had men on base and each dp began with a ball hit right at an a’s infielder. the right pitch, the right location hit to someone positioned perfectly. saunders made one real bad pitch and cespesdes sent it for a ride.
