Not since 1900 has a pitcher struck out 15 and still lost the game. Jamie Shields made one mistake last night and Chris Davis made him pay with a monstrous HR. The Red Sox blew a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 9th when Raul Ibanez went deep. The result was then a foregone conclusion. Miquel Gonzalez was superb last night.
Here’s the scenario for Wednesday.
If the O’s win and the Yankees lose there will be a 1 game playoff Thursday at camden Yards. Don’t expect it–the Red Sox will probably lay down tomorrow.
If the O’s win, the Yankees win—the wild card game will be in Baltimore on Friday.
If the O’s lose they will have to travel to the loser of the game between Oakland and Texas.
Chris Tillman is scheduled to pitch Wednesday which might leave Joe Saunders as the Wild Card game Starter. Gotta think about that one.

oakland and the o’s are tied. if they both finish with the same record, and they are both wildcard teams, the o’s go to oakland for the one game playoff. if the o’s and the yanks win tonight and oakland wins today (afternoon game), texas becomes the wildcard team and the o’s would host the rangers.
