– The No. 1 Maryland men’s soccer team surrendered two goals following a second-half red card to drop its first match of the year 4-2 at No. 18 Wake Forest Thursday.
The Terps (14-1-2, 6-1-1 ACC) picked up goals from senior John Stertzer and freshman Christiano Francois but allowed a season-high four goals en route to their first loss of the year. Wake Forest (11-3-4, 4-1-3 ACC) managed two goals, including a penalty kick score, after a red card was issued to senior defender London Woodberry in the 65th minute.
After an early goal by Wake Forest forward Sean Okoli in the 15th minute, Maryland was able to answer 10 minutes later with a spectacular bicycle kick tally by Stertzer at 24:22. The highlight-reel goal was the MAC Hermann Trophy candidate’s sixth score of the year.
The Terps open up the ACC Tourney at home Tuesday night at 7PM
