Terps face Crucial Test in Tallahassee Tonight vs FSU

Why? Maryland is currently 3-4, with 11 ACC games left. To get to 11 wins if they are 3-5 would require a 8-2 finish— a tall task.

Keep an eye on the following:

Does any point guard step up and take control of this team?

Can Charles Mitchell put together a second strong game on the road?

Can Jake Layman play like he does at Comcast?

Can Alex stay aggressive throughout the game?

Can the Terps reach 70 points?

My take: The emphasis tonight will be to get Alex deep into the offense and hopefully get Jake into a better rhythm. The Terps will avenge the loss at Comcast and defeat the Seminoles 70-62. CRUCIAL GAME!!!

i think layman has had 2 good games at comcast so i’m not sure you really want him playing the way he usually plays anywhere.

Jake offers unique problems for the opposition.
He is tall, 6’81/2, quick, good defender, deep range, and the best feeder into the post on the team.
He should be getting a minimum of 25 minutes per game.
He is a victim of the Turgeon frantic substitutions.
Isn’t it ironic what Coach K has accomplished with 7-8 man rotations over the years. And I do believe that his benches have been far deeper and more talented than the Terp fare.

Layman hasn’t yet had 1 good full game. He’s had 2 excellent halves but pretty much disappeared in the 2nd half of both those games. He’s a freshman with potential and should improve with time but to think he’s one of the 5 best players on the team now is absurd.

Isn’t this the same Mricklen who said Joe Flacco didn’t have the mental capacity to be a excel as an NFL starter? Probably better to keep your talent evaluation comments to yourself until you get one right.

Brian, thank you for your kind words, but was wondering how to get one right, by keeping comments to myself?
An opinion is just that, some are correct and others subject to reevaluation.
I dare say I am not the first to question Joe’s imagination. I certainly wish him all the best, which I am sure he has been anticipating.
As for Layman, he like most players needs consistent time on the floor to display consistency.
The coach seems to be over reactive in replacing players, in my opinion, if you would allow such assertions?
I do think of as one of the top 4/5 talents on the team, that has been very disappointing thus far.

Turgeon does sub frequently but I think that is more a function of the fact that Wells and Len are the only 2 players who have separated themselves from the others. On any given night Layman, Allen, or Faust can be a top player but none has done it consistently enough to earn starter minutes every night. Hopefully tonight a few step up and we win the game.
