The No. 2 Maryland (0-0) men’s lacrosse team opens its 2013 season with a Tuesday evening game vs. in-state foe Mount St. Mary’s. The Terps and the Mount are slated for a 5 p.m. start at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
• This marks the first time since 1998-2000 that the Terps have opened three consecutive seasons at home. The final game of that stretch was a 19-3 win over Mount St. Mary’s.
• Maryland is coming off of a 2012 season that saw the Terps advance to the NCAA tournament championship for the second consecutive season. This season the Terrapins return 10 of 13 starters. Seniors Owen Blye and Billy Gribbin return at attack, while senior John Haus and junior Mike Chanenchuk are back on the first midfield. The entire close defense of juniors Brian Cooper and Michael Ehrhardt and sophomore Goran Murray return in front of junior goalie Niko Amato, who is back as the starter for the third season. Starting long pole Jesse Bernhardt and short stick defensive midfielder Landon Carr also are back. Also back is redshirt senior midfielder Jake Bernhart, who missed the 2012 season due to injury. from umterps.com
