Maryland coach Mark Turgeon has implored sophomore Nick Faust to do a better job stepping into his shot as opposed to being too loose with his technique.
Faust took the advice and had a season-high 18 points and Maryland won its fourth consecutive game over Clemson, 72-59 on Saturday.
Freshmen Jake Layman and Shaquille Cleare scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Terrapins (19-8, 7-7 Atlantic Coast Conference), who are 16-2 at home.
“I think he was five assists and no turnovers at Boston College, which means he has eight assists and no turnovers the last two games primarily at the point. Nick has put a lot of time into his jumper. We put the shooting machine, the gun, up a lot and he is on it a lot. For me with Nick it is just step-in threes. When he steps in he can make those, when he shoots those other crazy ones he isn’t quite as good. He did that. I thought his floor game was good; he got us into our offense. I thought he defended better; I am on Nick all the time to be an elite defender and take on a challenge. He really defended today and played better defensively too.”—Turgeon Post game on Nick’s performance
My take after watching the victory last night:
19 assists and only 8 turnovers says it all.
Certainly Nick Faust’s best game of the year—7-10 from the field –3 assist–0 Turnovers in 29 minutes
again a Layman double digit effort and a Terp victory
Dez Wells continues to struggle scoring with but 3 points but contributes 8 assists
Effective full court press turns the game
I just can’t figure out why for certain stretches of the game Alex Len is so quiet–9 points 8 rebounds for the projected #7 player in the NBA draft
After a 26 point game at BC–Logan only played 9 minutes—curious stat
Joe Lunardi has the Terps as 1 of the last 8 out–We are now on the line every game—Georgia is a MUST MUST win Wednesday night

It is great to see the Terps press. It worked today, it was not so hot against UVa. This is progress. As for Aronhalt, he was back to his usual minutes. If he is not hot right off the bench, he seems to be little used.
