Football Practice
I spent some time watching the offense today and as always was mesmerized by the incredible ability of Stefon Diggs. QB Riccardo Young certainly has lightning fast speed. Stefon and Deon Long ran in the same sets. Early impression of Deon Long was that he has exceptional hands. I can’t wait to watch this duo. Spirits were high thoughout the practice
Lacrosse Practice
On my way to the football practice field, I stopped in at Capital One Field to watch the #1 Terps prepare for Stony Brook tomorrow.Coach Tillman is fortunate to have his team led by an exceptional bunch of Seniors, namely Jesse and Jake Bernhardt, Kevin Cooper, and Owen Blye. Practice was conducted in an incredibly orderly fashion. I spoke with Assistant Coach Fran Gormley about how the #1 ranking is something to be proud of but means very little to this squad. The only #1 ranking the team wants is that poll after Memorial day.
Softball
Maryland dropped a pair of games to Iowa 9-4 and Ohio State 10-9. Lindsey Scmeiser prodeced a Grand Slam for the Terps against the Buckeyes.
Basketball
The Terps dropped a 72-65 decision to the Tar heels, thus ending their regular season at the ACC Tournament in “neutral” Greensboro, NC. Maryland led 38-24 at halftime but the Heels scored 48 in the 2nd half to win. Alyssa Thomas scored 26 but might have tried to do uch down the wire. Duke plays Carolina for the Championship tomorrow–ho hum–big deal.
Women’s lacrosse–see above
Men’s basketball
Somehow the Terps are still in Joe Lunardi’s radar. Could I possibly dream up a victory over the Hoos tomorrow night? A bad matchup for Maryland. UVA is desperate however despite their good conference record , UVA had 7 losses to teams below the 100 RPI level. As for the Terps, I still say the magic # is 3.
Wrestling
In his final ACC Championship appearance, fifth-ranked Josh Asperwon his second conference crown with a dominant tournament performance Saturday at Comcast Center. Asper was joined on the championship podium by seventh-ranked Josh Sheptock and 14th-ranked Christian Boley, who both won their second consecutive ACC titles. The Terps finished 3rd overall behind the Hokies and then UVA.
