Sorry, but playing the tournament every year in Greensboro is patently unfair and makes me sick. Just a reminder next year the tournament is in Greensboro.
3 Points away from a ticket to the dance after all that went down this year. This team in no way, shape or form resembles the Terrapin team of 3 weeks ago. What really makes me sick was to watch Jay Williams belittle Maryland especially when he referred to our home Duke win as tainted because Ryan Kelly didn’t play. Of course Digger chimed in and agreed.
The Terps came back from double digit deficits 3 times. Alex had a super aggressive game in his farewell ACC appearance. Certainly Dez came through when needed. It’s strange but at least 4 or 5 layups just rolled off the edge of the rim–can’t blame that on anything except bad luck. The last play was set up perfectly but why Logan flashed out a few feet too far, which created a tough shot for the Academic All American.
Nick nailed 5 threes and certainly kept us in the game. But here is the bottom line–though we are playing our best ball of the year–the lack of a decent non conference schedule combined with an 8-10 conference record will relegate us to the dreadful NIT. Maryland is probably at this moment one of the top 40 teams in the country but will be left looking from the outside when all is said and done.

Nice run and forecast for the future.
Though several phantom calls at end were inevitable…
The ridiculous call on Dez’s drive as an offensive foul, and the foul call on Seth Allen after NC steal were just emblematic of ACC NC bias.
Good riddance!
The penalty for playing 3 days in a row, against 2in a row better teams, is much to overcome. Obvious that the Terps lacked the passion and energy of previous days.
Yet still were a couple of plays/calls from getting there.

Also agree re Jay’s ridiculous comments, and yet they feel Duke is a #1 seed, having not won their own conference or losing 1 and out in the conference tourney.
Seems to make the regular season 30+ games season as irrelevant as whatever Digger and Jay have to say.
Hopefully Turgeon has learned that the cupcake /patsies early season schedule that works so well for the Georgetowns et al does not work for the less priveleged.

The game vs Duke was basically a home game for MD. Everyone but the Duke fans were cheering for The Terps despite your predictions. Can’t wait to hear how the “neutral” Big 10 tournament site in Chicago or Indy is spun.
Dickie V was praising MD all game and said multiple times that they deserve to be in the tournament but instead of focusing on those comments we’re stuck hearing about what Jay Williams said. I dont remember reading about the fact that Jay Williams proclaimed MD to be the 2nd best team in the ACC earlier in the year.
If you can positively spin the dismantling of the Ravens surely you can do that for the ACC as well.

Brian –so you believe that there was never a Carolina edge to being in Greensboro. Gary won 1 ACC tournament–thats right 1–We had some pretty successful teams in his career. The Carolina teams role out of bed and take the 1 hour bus ride to Greensboro. By the way was that a neutral crowd against the Tar Heels?

a game effort by the terps. too many missed free throws and they didn’t win the battle for loose balls. the excuse they were tired..(does anyone remember uconn playing 5 days in a row to win the big east) well, it’s a 40 minute game each team has 4 time outs a half plus 4 tv time outs per half and a half time and nobody plays every minute. and these are 18-22 yr olds. they shouldn’t be tired. md has had horrible execution on last play shots all yr and yesterday was no exception. how does anyone take a 30 footer with 7 seconds left on the clock? makes you sick.
bruce says..4 or 5 layups just rolled off the edge of the rim–can’t blame that on anything except bad luck. horse crap. they’re layups. you have to execute the most basic shot in basketball. no team should miss that many layups.
not enough players contributed yesterday. layman, cleare, howard, aronholt, mitchell, allen played poorly. wells had a average game at best. faust and len played well. they’ll gain some more experience in the dreaded n.i.t.
overall a disappointing season. the coaching needs to improve next year and the constant “throwing players under the bus” needs to stop. and hopefully they don’t schedule all the tasty cakes next year.
the positive was a nice run the acc tournament giving fans some hope and hopefully the freshman make a big move forward next year. like to see md go after a quality jr college point guard if one is available. you can’t count on howard to regain his freshman form or roddy peters to step right in as a freshman to lead the team.

Rewatch the layups. Not to think 4 balls that hang on the rim and fall off has nothing to do with chance proves to me your basketball observations are limited.
When Wake had 4 threes that went in and out, Turgeon referred to it as luck –not great defense. When a ball strikes a foul pole for a HR is there not luck involved or was that the intention. When UVA suspends a player in the semifinal of the 2011 Lax Championships on a 100 degree day and he comes back to score 5 goals on Monday because he was the only player on the field with fresh legs—was that not lucky? Luck is involved in every facet of sports.

you want to compare a baseball hit with a bat going 310 feet to a layup out of someone hands from less than 1 foot. please
as for this comment…Not to think 4 balls that hang on the rim and fall off has nothing to do with chance proves to me your basketball observations are limited…if that’s what you think that’s fine.

Never said it wasn’t a UNC crowd yesterday, it obviously was but it wasa MD crowd the day before against Duke.
The Carolina teams are all staying in hotels prior to the ACC tournament just like MD. There is definitely an edge to having the tournament in NC for the Carolina teams but not a huge edge. How did MD fare when the tournament was in DC?

On the layup argument I think there is an element of truth to both sides. The fact that the shots didn’t fall wasn’t bad luck, the players just weren’t on their game which in itself was bad luck.
