Maryland Rolls Over Quinnipiac 72-52 To Advance to the Round of 32 Against Michigan State

Alyssa Thomas had 29 points and 13 rebounds, and Maryland outmuscled Quinnipiac, 72-52, in the NCAA First Round in College Park Sunday.

The fourth-seeded Terrapins (25-7) trailed by nine in the first half, moved in front 27-23 at the break and dominated the second half against the smaller Bobcats, who couldn’t stop Thomas’ repeated forays into the lane.

Tianna Hawkins had 23 points and 16 rebounds for Maryland. Alicia DeVaughn added a career-high 17 rebounds andKatie Rutan had her career-high 11 boards. Thomas’ double-double was her 20th of the season. She also notched five assists.

The Terrapins advanced to the Second Round for the ninth time under Frese and will play the 5-seed Michigan State (25-8) Monday at 7 p.m. in College Park. Monday’s game will be shown on ESPN2 and ESPN3.

My take: Alyssa just took this game over towards the end of the 1st half and that was that. She is a brilliant player who just runs the floor with speed, grace and power.
