I have been looking forward to this doubleheader all week and journeyed down to DC as a paying customer. But I have to admit, the 2 games were absolute jokes and embarrassments for the U and IU. They were not ready for prime time.
Miami was NEVER even close against Marquette. Marquette concentrated on disrupting the rhythm of Miami by shadowing Shane Larkin and it was effective. Where were the screens to set Shane loose? Coach Larranaga isn’t such a genius anymore. When Miami went to a press to try to get back in the game , things only got worse. Obviously, Miami hadn’t pressed all year–a huge error. I can’t believe that this was the same Miami team we had watched all year being schooled by a smaller, but quicker and more aggressive Marquette squad.
Indiana looked inept at trying to penetrate Syracuse’s 2-3 zone. But then again most teams do. But there is a way to play Cuse–they lost 9 times this year. IU just could not get even close to being successful. Let’s get one thing straight, Jim Boeheim is a genius.
The highlight of the night for me was sitting so close to Eric Hayes and and the greatest strategic college coach of his era, Gary Williams.
I spoke with Eric throughout the game and extensively to Coach Williams between the 2 games. That certainly made my night.
