Terrapins Scrimmage in Middletown

Running back Joe Riddle put up a dominant performance in his hometown as the Maryland football team held a scrimmage at Middletown High School in Middletown, Md., Saturday. Riddle, who played at rival Linganore High School in Frederick, Md., did not see action last season at Maryland as a freshman, but is beginning to make a name for himself in the spring.

Taking handoffs from quarterback Dustin Dailey, Riddle rushed for over 100 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown run. Riddle also rushed for a touchdown last week in Baltimore, but it felt a little bit better doing it in front of his family and friends.

“One of the things the defense felt last week like they didn’t perform to the standards that they have and they wanted to change that,” said Edsall. “I think those guys are really starting to settle in. … That’s one of the big differences between the offense and defense right now. There’s a little bit more leadership on the defense with guys doing what they’re supposed to be doing, and guys going after guys.”

The Terps scrimmaged on March 30 in Baltimore at Dunbar High School. This is the first time Maryland has traveled for practices in the spring, and with about 1,700 people at the Middletown scrimmage, Edsall certainly plans on doing it again.
