After suffering their only loss of the season to North Carolina, the Terps have bounced back to win two straight. The latest was a gritty 11-8 win over a stubborn Navy team. The Terps put on their turtle shells for this one, withstanding a five-goal Midshipmen run in the second quarter that turned a 3-0 lead into a 5-3 deficit. The only other team this season to put a run of that sort on the Terps was UNC. Maryland looked like they learned from that setback and responded by scoring seven of the game’s next eight to secure the win. After Maryland lost to the Tar Heels I still had them ranked No. 1 in my poll; their body of work was just too impressive for me to demote them. In mid-April the Terps are the best team in lacrosse. Of course, the National Championship is won in May. An effort like the one against Navy is a valuable, positive building block for the rest of the season.
