Maryland’s Matt Furstenburg in Good Position to Make a Run at Becoming a Raven—from the Sun

Ravens rookie tight end Matt Furstenburg quickly got into his pattern, flashing across the middle to catch a touchdown pass in stride.

It was an encouraging moment for the former Maryland player Sunday as the Ravens concluded their rookie minicamp.

“It’s nice,” Furstenburg said. “I can build on that.”

Furstenburg identified a prime opportunity with the Ravens after going undrafted, choosing them over the Carolina Panthers after receiving a call from coach John Harbaugh

Now Furstenburg, a 6-foot-3, 244-pound New Jersey native who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.62 seconds at the NFL scouting combine, is intent on quickly learning the playbook so he can compete for a roster spot.

“It was good, it was good to get the plays down and memorize it and learn it and make the right corrections,” said Furstenburg, who caught 16 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns as a senior to finish his Terps career with 60 receptions for 769 yards and five touchdowns. “I just try to compete out there. I’m just trying to jump into it and really get it down.”
