Maryland was looking for an elite running back in its 2014 class, and on May 9 they found one in Danvers, Mass. Johnathan Thomas, a three-star recruit from St. John’s Prep (Mass.), had been singing the Terps’ praises since he first pulled in a UMD verbal back in February — and now he’s the third member of this recruiting class.

“Man, this feels amazing. I made the right decision for me and my family,” said the 5-foot-11, 215-pound Thomas, who chose Maryland over offers from Arkansas, Boston College, Connecticut and Massachusetts. “I got all this weight off my shoulders, and after I committed I was like, ‘Wow I really did this.’
“I have no second thoughts, I’m 100 percent sold on Maryland. I called Coach [Keith] Dudzinksi this afternoon, and he was fired up. All of them – Coach [Randy] Edsall, Coach [Andre] Powell, they were all fired up. I was their top running back choice and they got me. They’re excited for me and I’m excited to be a Terp.”
Thomas said he made the decision late last night after speaking to his father, whom he’s very close with. He said after weighing all his other offers, Maryland was the best choice.
“My dad was very excited and proud of me,” said Thomas, who called Dudzinksi the afternoon of May 9. “It won’t be too hard for him to come and see me, and he thought it was cool that a player on Maryland’s team now has a dad who played with my dad in college.”

how often have you heard elite and 3 star used together. if a 3 star is elite what does that make a 5 star. thomas may become an elite back but i just have never heard any recruit rated as a 3 star as elite. i thought stefon diggs was an elite recruit so iguess thomas and diggs are comparable even though one was a 5 star and the other a 3 star.
