Anonymous scouting Report on Maryland Cornell in insidelacrosse.com

“Before everyone starts worrying about Pannell, that game is going to be won in the middle of the field. Maryland just scored 18 against Colgate, but Cornell is different from what they’ve seen. Getting familiar with each other’s style is six days is really tough, and that’s a balance of getting the team used to each opponent without overcoaching. I think the middle of the field will be huge, as will who covers Pannell and how they choose to approach him. Do they shut him off, limited touches, zone, or some other sort of funky defense? Does Pannell try to take over and do too much? Defensively, they’ve got some athletes on Cornell’s end of the field, they’re aggressive out on people’s hands. The X Factor — 31 in the cage f or Maryland. It’s the NCAA Tournament… the lights will be bright, it’s the main game on Sunday, you know he’s going to show up.”

“If Maryland plays like they did against Colgate, Maryland’s back. They shot unreal. They were putting the ball where the goalie wasn’t, they were shooting so well. I don’t know that AJ Fiore’s making that save. I don’t that Austin Kaut is making that save, or John Kemp. I think it’s the most interesting matchup of the weekend because they pose matchup problems for the other, and it starts with Cornell’s attack on Maryland’s D. I don’t know who  Kevin Conry is going to put on Pannell. Ehrhardt because he’s big and strong? But he’s not fast enough. Pannell is deceptively quick, but he’s deceptively fast. So you put Murray on him, but he likes playing at the end of his stick, and Panenll will just body him up. The other end, the midfield is going to be a bear for Cornell. I realize they can bump up a pole and Thomas Keith is playing really well, but Haus, Chanenchuk and Bernhardt, any one of them can get loose and go wild.”

“It’s going to the most physical. Two senior-ladeen teams. I expect to see a Rob Pannell-Goran Murray matchup, that’ll be athletically one of the best. I think the team that gets north of 10 is the winner. That one has 10-8 written all over.”
