The texts of sympathy started arriving early in the 4th as is was clear Cornell was going to win. I guess the malaise I was talking about in the middle of the season wasn’t so . It was just hard to understand the Terps losing the ground ball wars, Faceoffs, and being unable to generate offense after the great start they had.
Give credit where it is due however. Cornell was easily the best team Maryland faced all year. Rob Pannell is absolutely fantastic. Nothing the Terps did could slow him down.
A few more points:
Jesse Bernhardt played his heart out today. Period. Jesse caused 5 turnovers and had 9 groundballs. Thanks Jesse — look forward to seeing you on the Bayhawks
John Haus had 2 goals and played 110% gate to wire.
The loss wasn’t bad enough but then I had to endure a 2 1/2 hour trip home due to traffic on 95. Like i did 44 years ago I took route 1 home.
16 goals does not define the efforts of Niko Amato. Most of the goals were point blank where Niko just didn’t have a chance. With all of the Seniors on this team, it will be up to Niko to be the leader next year.
What seemed to be missing today—perhaps a Rob pannell type player. Can Bradlee Lord develop into a true go to guy? Next year Matt Rambo –the #1 recruit in the nation along with Conor Canizarro #9. Here’s what insidelacrosse.com has to say:
Rambo and Cannizzaro should be a fantastic 1-2 punch on offense for the Terps once they arrive. Just looking at the recruit timing mechanisms, the goal here would be for these young shooters to supplement a peaking Class of 2011, ranked No. 1 by Inside Lacrosse in our most recent Recruiting Issue and featuring strong offensive players like Kevin Forster and David Solomon. That formula —talented freshmen helping juniors ready to explode— has won championships for other programs in the past. This should be a fine baseline for continued success for Maryland.
