That will make it 4 NCAA Title Losses in 3 years–2 by the women and 2 by the men—Unreal
Yes I have admit it was a great game which makes losing all the more worse
9,391 Attended the game and I was shocked to see more Carolina fans
Taylor Cummings was sensational today. When Taylor committed to Maryland, my friend Marc Appel told me Taylor was the most determined player he had ever seen in Women’s lacrosse. Taylor took all the draws last night and dominated. Crucial loose groundballs down the wire were gobbled up by the McDonogh grad. She also scored 3 goals. Guaranteed to be a leader of the Terps the next 3 years, she is simply fantastic.
Maryland had numerous opportunities to convert in OT but the Terps were unable to score
Both goalies were great in OT–Maryland’s Casey Howard mde 4 stops in OT
Tell me when the Terps took a 11-9 lead were you not confident of Victory
As usual Cathy was more complementary of her opponent then Carolina’s coach was
It’s ridiculous to even consider but I really believe Maryland might have been better off with several closer games throughout the year. Even a loss would not have hurt. But when all when said and done, the Terps had their chances, totally dominating possession time at the end of the game, but just could not close the deal. What an incredible season for Maryland. Wire to wire #1 in the nation until heartbreak set in. Give the Heels, credit, most teams would have folded like an accordion when Maryland went up 11-9 but Carolina hung in and persevered. Maryland and Carolina treated the nation to the greatest game ever in Women’s lacrosse.
Now just a minute or 2 on the officiating. This is no way an opinion that the refs hurt Maryland. In fact Maryland probably had the benefit of some of the calls. But the constant stoppage of play throughout Championship weekend was absolutely ridiculous. There must have been 50 stick checks, 10 meetings and conversations, and so many unexplainable decisions. Fortunately the quality of play, and determination of every player on the field overcame the insanity of the multiple calls. For all of you casual fans of Women’s lacrosse, this was not the norm or no one would ever watch a game.
On the stick check issue, if it is such a concern then increase the penalty for violation. Perhaps a violation should resulting in removing the player and making the offending team play a man down. Something, anything other then what happened last night.
It’s the next morning and this loss still stings. Maryland has suffered too many of these lately in every sport, but one thing is for sure Cathy Reese will have us back in contention as always and next year the finals are at Johnny Unitas Stadium. I am already looking forward to the Final Four.
As for the Seniors, the pain is there but what incredible careers they have all had. To leave on absolute perfection would have been a fitting ending, but life is always not that kind. But I guess 4 ACC Titles, 4 final fours, 1 NCAA title, 3 Championship Game appearances will have to suffice.
Terrapin nation could not be prouder of this team and it’s fantastic coach.
A year of glory , a day of heartbreak.

o.t. number one md up a man and have what to me is like a free kick in soccer with about 45 seconds to go. instead of being aggressive and going to the goal and shoot md passes the ball around to take the last shot. didn’t like that strategy. if you score that doesn’t mean nc gets possession. and md had won a majority of the draws all game. 2nd ot md has man advantage and couldn’t take care of business. ot 3 md gets a breakaway as they caught nc sleeping and couldn’t score. you can’t miss on that many golden opportunities and win. give nc credit and wait til next year.

There is no joy in Mudville either, as Mighty Casey has struck out!
