The Orioles have bolstered their bullpen by acquiring veteran reliever Francisco Rodriguez from the Brewers. In exchange, the Brewers receive minor-league infielder Nick Delmonico.
This season, Rodriguez, age 31, has pitched to a 1.09 ERA with 26 strikeouts and six unintentional walks in 24 2/3 innings. For his career, Rodriguez has 304 saves and a 2.64 ERA (161 ERA+) across parts of 12 major-league seasons with the Angels, Mets and Brewers. In 2008, Rodriguez set the all-time record for saves in a season with 62.
My take: It will be interesting to see how Buck uses FRod— occasional stopper, set up man? One thing for sure, Rodriquez provide an insurance man in case Johnson has another streak of poor performances.
