If I didn’t see what happened in the bottom of the 9th I wouldn’t believe it. The most elementary of all of those who play baseball would avoid what happened to Dickerson.
Dickerson tried to steal second on a pitch to Brian Roberts, who hit a foul pop near first base. Dickerson didn’t know where the ball went, and Ramirez made it appear that the ball was in play as Dickerson slid into second. The baserunning blunder made him an easy out at first.
“I didn’t peek and it ended up in the one place where you’re not going to get that awareness reaction from the infielders,” Dickerson said. “Especially Ramirez with the deke. That pretty much got me. I assumed there was a groundball hit behind me and he was going to first because I was already there.”

you’re completely wrong about dickerson. a lot of base stealers don’t look for the ball when they steal. ricky henderson said it slows you down. just bad luck because dickerson seemed to have the base stolen. i don’t like the head first slide because it makes it much harder to pick up the 3rd base coach. with feet first slide you bounce up and are in too see things more quickly and you’re in a position to run plus feet first allows you to kick the ball out of the glove of the defender. the white sox ss did a good job deeking dickerson as if the ball was being thrown to him. bad luck. the rays won so the birds go back to 2 in loss column. still time. even though valencia is hitting .175 vs right handers i would have had him in the line up because he’s really hitting well. sometimes you have to go with your gut rather than the stats.
