This is an important game for Paul Pasqualoni. He wasn’t a popular pick to guide the program and left the field to a shower of boos after the Huskies lost their open- er to Towson State. Pasqualoni is known for putting gnarly defenses on the field and has an extra week to prepare. Nonetheless, we’re bullish on Maryland. The Terrapins suffered an incredible wave of injuries last year. At one point in the season, six freshmen were starting on offense and the fellow playing quarterback was a converted linebacker. The most significant injury was to QB C.J. Brown who was lost for the season without taking a snap. Brown is back in the fold and has a new toy in vagabond WR Deon Long, a splendid talent and a fine complement to the explosive Stefon Diggs. Brown figures to have another solid outing against a UConn team that had four defensive players picked in the first four rounds of the NFL Draft, including both cornerbacks. As for Brown’s Connecticut counterpart, Chandler Whitmer, he was sacked five times in the opener and looked uncom- fortable playing for a new position coach. Whitmer’s not on the same level as the quarterback that Maryland faced last week, 1-AA wizard Taylor Heinicke, and Maryland contained him so well that he was benched in the third quarter. This is a homecoming for Randy Edsall, the winningest coach in Connecticut football his- tory. And by the way, it may be worth noting that the Towson State coach is one of Edsall’s former UConn assistants, Rob Ambrose. We don’t foresee Edsall being upstaged by a former assistant. MARYLAND 41-10.
