#17 Terps Defeat Clemson 3-1–Patrick Mullins Scores Twice

Senior Patrick Mullins scored two goals from the penalty spot as the No. 17 Maryland men’s soccer team defeated No. 13 Clemson at Historic Riggs Field Saturday night.

The Terrapins (2-2-2, 2-0-1 ACC) broke down a stingy Tiger (6-1-0, 2-1-0) defense that had only allowed one goal all season. Sophomore Schillo Tshuma added the Terps other tally.

After an even start, the Terps took the lead when Mullins slotted the ball home from the penalty spot for his third goal of the season. Senior Jake Pace drew the opportunity when he was taken down inside the box.

The Tigers evened the match early in the second half. Ara Akmarkanian received a through ball from Austen Burnikal and slid the ball past freshman goalkeeper Zachary Steffen in the 47th minute.

Tshuma put Maryland ahead for good in the 50th minute. Junior Sunny Jane fed the sophomore striker, who headed the ball past for Chris Glodack from short range.

Mullins sealed the win in the 83rd minute. The senior was pulled down in the box and converted the subsequent penalty opportunity for his second goal of the match.
