Two former University of Maryland standouts Quinn Carney and Tracy Stumpf were named to the 2013 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Saturday night in Hunt Valley, Md.
Carney and Stumpf joined six other inductees including Jim Berkman, Michele DeJuliis, Sue Heether, Bill Miller, Ryan Wade, and Michael Watson in this year’s class.
Carney was a four-year starter and two-time All-American at midfielder for Maryland. She helped lead the Terrapins to four straight NCAA national championships from 1998-2001, and three straight ACC Championships from 1999-2001. Carney was a three-time All-ACC selectee (1999-2001) and was also selected to the ACC’s 50th Anniversary Team in 2002. She currently ranks fifth on the school’s all-time list in assists (110), seventh in goals (162) and eighth in points (265). She was a two-time member of the U.S. Women’s World Cup Team (2001, 2005) and named to the All-World Team in 2005. Carney holds the record for most goals scored in World Cup play (37) by a U.S. player.
Stumpf was a four-year starter on defense for the Terps and was a two-time first team All-American, earning the honor in both 1985 and 1986. She was also named to the NCAA’s All-Tournament Team three times (1984, 1985, 1986) and was team captain on the Terps’ first national championship team in 1986. Additionally, she was named to the ACC’s 50th Anniversary Team in 2002, and the NCAA’s 25th Anniversary Team in 2006. Stumpf spent seven years (1986-1993) as a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team Program and was a member of the 1989 championship-winning U.S. World Cup Team.
