Saturday is Key Recruiting Day of Maybe the Last 10 Years as 5 Stars Damian Prince (OL) and Jalen Tabor (CB) are Taking Their Officials to Maryland

STORYLINE: The Syracuse-Maryland tilt is not exactly a blockbuster matchup this weekend but not many other games carry as much recruiting importance as the game in College Park.

That’s because five-star offensive tackle Damian Prince and five-star cornerback Jalen Tabor will be on their official visits and legitimately the Terrapins could land both prospects. Farrell said Maryland are the frontrunners for both five-star recruits and this weekend could go a long way in landing their commitments.

Prince will be visiting Maryland this weekend.
Not to overstate the case, but from a recruiting perspective, Farrell added this is the biggest weekend in coach Randy Edsall’s tenure with the Terrapins. After landing game-changers like Deon Long and Stefon Diggs in the last two recruiting classes, Prince and Tabor have similar firepower in the 2014 class.

Maryland is a touchdown favorite this weekend. It is a great opportunity for the Terrapins to further impress Tabor and Prince, who will each take other official visits, and this game could go a long way in landing two of the top area prospects.

First take: “The importance of this weekend on and off the field at Maryland cannot be understated,” Rivals.com Mid-Atlantic analyst Adam Friedman said. “Off the field the Terps will host two local five-star players in Tabor and Prince among others. Maryland is widely considered the leader for both and it is imperative that Edsall and his staff impress both if they want to land their commitments. On the field, Maryland has a chance to become bowl-eligible with a win, an impressive feat considering this is the second-straight injury-plagued season in College Park. Becoming bowl-eligible is a prerequisite to landing Tabor and Prince and doing it in front of these five-stars will mean that much more to them.”

Second take: “They have a great chance with both,” Farrell said. “They lead for both. This is the official visit for both. It’s an early official visit and each of them has official visits after this but I think the wheels are already in motion here. Tabor is leaning heavily toward Maryland and he and his family are close with Prince and his family and I think that’s going to have a big influence on what Damian does down the stretch. The bottom line is winning. If Maryland loses out and doesn’t go to a bowl again, everything changes. Their best opportunity at least on paper is to get that sixth victory right now. It’s the biggest weekend for Randy Edsall on the field and off the field since he’s been at Maryland.”
