“Good chance” that Roddy Peters is going to start Friday. Still said has to get better defensively.
We just didn’t guard. We never adjusted either, which is the
worst part. Individual and team defense were both bad.
Three games in four days in islands: Should improve a lot.
Go down there and get better. It’s totally different than this summer’s trip.
No more fun, this is business.
More pressure now? We don’t want to be 1-2. We just want to
play better. The worst part about our turnovers is that they lead to layups.
May have to play more guys if people don’t give better effort on D. Turge mentioned Dodd, Graham and Ram, specifically Ram (which I don’t really get). Needs to find a way to play Dodd 5-6 minutes in the first half of games where they need it. He reiterated what he said Sunday: “I need to build depth.”
Turge said he needs to find the guys to play these guys more.
On rim protection: “I think rim protection is a little bit overrated.” Turge says it’s more about guarding the ball, referenced when he took an A&M team to the tournament with a 6-7 center. As far as rim protection goes, he said, “Dodd will be that guy but he’s not ready. Trayvon Reed (recent 7-foot-2 commit) will be that guy he’s not here.”
Oregon State made 24 layups in paint which doesn’t include their trips to the line. Turge said he’s never seen a stat like that before on one of his teams. He said he is shocked by how they’re playing defense considering how they played in preseason. He made them re-watch the Villanova scrimmage, in which they defended well.
Also said team is shocked by their play, you can see it on their faces.
On Nick Faust being more committed to the stopper role: “I’m begging him to.” Turge said Nelson’s 31 isn’t all on Faust, a lot of ball screen and help side issues too. Said, “there isn’t one guy playing at a high level defensively for us.”
