The Maryland field hockey team fell behind early and couldn’t convert shots in the second half as it fell to No. 5 Duke, 3-2, in the NCAA Semifinals Friday at Old Dominion.
The Terrapins (22-2) trailed 3-2 at the break and despite outshooting the Blue Devils, 11-2 in the second half, they couldn’t convert to advance to the NCAA Championship game. “Of course, we’re exceedingly disappointed to not be in a position to play for the national championship,” head coach Missy Meharg said. “That’s a very, very much improved Duke team that came out with a lot of energy, a lot of conviction that executed quickly. We had a lot, just a little bit too late.”
