Terrapins Win Paradise Jam Championship Holding on to Defeat Providence 56-52—Dez Wells MVP

At one point in the 2nd half the Terps were up 44-25 and then it seemed the roof caved in , as the Friars closed the gap to 2 but never tied or took the lead. Why? Because Dez Wells took over the game when the Terps were in deep trouble. The tornament MVP scored 6 in crunch time to help preserve the victory.

Evan Smoltrycz made the all tourney team and finished the game with 13 points.

Shaq Cleare finished the game with 7 points but easily could have had 15 had he converted a few relatively easy shots.

Charles Mitchell scored 9 on 4-6 shooting.

Varun Ram contributed 3 points, 3 steals and 3 rebounds in 12 minutes and continues to be defensive spark plug.

Jake and Nick struggled somewhat tonight finishing a combined 3-18. Jake did have 7 rebounds.

I really believed this was a big win for Maryland tonight. The Terps could not afford an OC loss against a worthy opponent with Ohio State looming on the horizon.

Look this was a very good confidence building effort that should help remove the slow start from the team’s minds.
