Witmer Named Honda Award Finalist

Senior Jill Witmer of the Maryland field hockey team was named one of four finalists for the Honda Sports Award, the honor that recognizes the national player of the year.

Witmer, the 2013 ACC Offensive Player of the year, led the nation’s top offense in scoring this year with 19 goals and nine assists for 47 points in 21 games played. She led the ACC in game-winning goals with eight on the year.

She was named a National Field Hockey Coaches Association First Team All-American earlier this week. She is the sixth four-time All-American in Maryland history. Witmer made the First Team as a sophomore in 2011 as well and the Second Team in her freshman and junior years.
