A Few Thoughts on Maryland Basketball

Shaq’s production is just down. Will Mitchell get the starting role against GW? I thought Mitchell was excellent against Ohio State –fighting for every ball, scoring, rebounding. Perhaps he could help us get off to better start.

It just seems like when Dez is off the point, his production rapidly improves. Peters, Ram , and even Nick could split time to see who is more effective.

It is apparent that we need Layman to stroke the 3 inorder to win against good teams. Yes he was guarded well against the Buckeyes but he missed several open shots. It is imperative that we get him going early on Sunday.

Out of Conference key games left–Sunday vs GW–Dec 21  and Dec 29 vs Tulsa. Neither of these teams are top 25 RPI teams but this is who we play. The Terps MUST win these 2 games. GW certainly has a chance to pull some big upsets.

Peters should take most of the minutes at point guard. Yes, he’ll make mistakes, but I can live with his mistakes over experienced guys making the same mistakes they did a year or two years ago. Starting lineup should be Peters, Wells, Layman, Smotrycz, and Mitchell. I’m not sure Shaq has ever been that productive. I think he is getting better, but it is a slower growth than anticipated.
