After thinking about the game for a few hours, I am now not as upset about the closeness of the score as I was. Plain and simple the Terps were just flat today, the crowd was flat, and due to poor shot selection in the 1st half they allowed the Owls to hang around. It took a late trey from Jake to put he game away. Turgeon talked about the poor shots in the 1st half:
On the shot selection in the first half:
“In the first half, I wasn’t [happy]. We had some open looks early in the shot clock that we missed. We also made some tough shots early over hands, so our guys continued to shoot them. We talked about all the positives in the locker room. Winning is hard in college basketball. It’s not easy. We have to be much more unselfish on both ends on the floor for us to be a better basketball team. We talked about that.”
Some of the good points about today:
Jake was 8-14 from the field
Shaq and Mitchell combined for 20 points on 10-13 shooting
Once again Jon Graham provided a needed energy boost to Maryland and actually started the 2nd half
On the other hand
Smoltrycz was 1-12 from the field
Roddy had 5 assists but continued unable to hit an outside shot
Dez did not drive the bucket in the 1st half but came on strong in the 2nd
Nick was 3-9 from the Field but according to Turgeon played strong defense on Pablo Bertone
Game over , a week off, back on the court next Saturday at 1PM against Boston University
