Pitt Dominates and Defeats the Terps 83-79—“I’ve been doing this a long time. I’ve been an assistant coach and a head coach for about 26 years, and I’m telling you, that’s one of the best teams I’ve ever coached against,” Turgeon said. “How they’re ranked 20th at 18-2 is an absolute joke. I think they’re a Top 5 team in this country, to come into this building and really control the game.”

Listen, the Terps put up a hechuva effort tonight but one thing is clear–the better team did something very few ACC teams have done in recent years—dominated Maryland at College Park for just about the whole game. The final score was not indicative of the game although the Terps had a few chances to really close the gap.

I thought Jake Layman played perhaps his best game of the year finishing with 18 points and making several strong defensive plays.

Many NBA scouts were present to watch Lamar Patterson and he sure didn’t disappoint them. Patterson continually drove to the hoop and usually wound up with easy layups. He finished with 28 points.

Something is wrong with a basketball game when 77 foul shots are taken. Maryland and Pitt combined for 33 turnovers. Big East basketball is alive and well in the ACC. UGHHHHH

Jaime Dixon was kind after the game.

“We withstood a hard-playing, aggressive, physical, tough team who’s very good and hard to guard,” said Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon. “I think they’re a team that’s going to continue to get better with [Seth] Allen.”

Pittsburgh (18-2, 6-1) never trailed in the second half against the Terrapins. Although this game was significantly closer than the first one, Maryland (11-9, 3-4) simply couldn’t contain Patterson, a 6-foot-5 senior who fell just short of matching his career high of 30 points.

The Terps sit at 3-4 in Conference play with the U coming in Wednesday night at 9PM.
