Freshman Lexie Brown added a career-high 20 points, while senior Alyssa Thomas added 18 points and nine rebounds, but No. 8 Maryland women’s basketball fell behind late in the second half to get edged at No. 18 North Carolina State, 72-63.
Maryland (16-4, 4-3 ACC) led 53-44 with 12:21 to play, then a layup by NC State’s Kody Burke sparked a 28-10 run to close the game.
NC State (19-3, 6-2) started the game off with a 6-0 lead less than two minutes in. The Terrapins responded with a 22-6 run, jumpstarted by Brown’s two threes. Thomas added 10 consecutive points herself in the run as the Terps led by 10 with 11 minutes left in the half.
