“We played tonight for Maryland,” Turgeon said. “We didn’t play for ourselves. We played for all the former coaches, all the former players, all the former students. We played for Maryland, because we knew we weren’t getting them at our place. This was our one chance. We know what it means to Maryland fans. I couldn’t be more proud of my guys. I hope every Maryland fans feels the same way. I know we’re upset that we lost, but our guys gave it all they have.”
It was all we could ask for, the probable final possession and all the Terps needed to win was one 2 point basket. We could not have asked for a better shot and Charles Mitchell who had played brilliantly was in position to win the game. But the cruel fingers of fate crashed down on Maryland just like they have all of the last painful year of ACC play and the ball which seemed so certain to go in, hung on the rim and fell out. The pain, the memories of being so close linger on.

Smotrycz was so so tonight except during crunch time when he scored his 6 points. Evan’s shooting woes continue (2-9) but he gathered in 8 rebounds.
Through the 1st 30 minutes Jake was special, finishing with 18 points and 6 rebounds. As Dez took over the game, Jake’s contributions lessened.
Dez was Dez, often looking superior to the much heralded jabari Parker. once again Dez was incredible in the 2ndhalf scoring all of 17 points.

Terps out rebounded Duke 43-36
But Duke won before what seemed like a quiet Duke crowd.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, who has been outspoken about his unhappiness over the Terps’ departure for the Big Ten Conference next season, said the end of the game was a reminder that “sometimes the basketball gods fool around with you.”
As for the end of the rivalry, Krzyzewski said: “It won’t be replicated. There will be other rivalries and other games. It started with [former Terps coach] Lefty [Driesell], really. You can talk about all these years. [Bob] Wade, then Gary [Williams] did an incredible job, and now Mark. The one consistent thing is that they’ve been great games.”

Even Doris Burke openly admitted that the terps were being punished by the league and the refs, of course this is not a new phenomenon!
