Wizards Bolster Playoff Chances by Trading for Andre Miller

The Washington WizardsDenver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers completed a three-team trade Thursday that sent disgruntled point guard Andre Miller to the Wizards.

The Wizards, who are looking to solidify their playoff position, sent big man Jan Vesely to the Nuggets and point guard Eric Maynor to the 76ers, who also will acquire two second-round draft picks.

Miller hasn’t played since he was suspended by the Nuggets on Jan. 2 after an altercation with coach Brian Shaw. He’s been away from the team and on the trade block since.

The Wizards, who have come on strong after a slow start to the season, have been looking for a veteran backup to John Wall. Miller is earning $5 million this season, and his $4.6 million contract for next year is guaranteed for just $2 million. The 16-year veteran averaged 5.9 points and 3.3 assists in 30 games for the Nuggets.
