A great Season for Towson basketball (24-10) Ends With Upset Defeat at the hands of W&M 75-71

Junior guard Marcus Thornton scored a game high 21 points and made two key free throws with 4.9 seconds remaining as No. 3 William & Mary (20-11) upset second-seeded Towson University (23-10) in the semi-finals of the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament at the Baltimore Arena on Sunday afternoon.

CAA POY Jerrelle Benimon was double and triple teamed all game and committed 2 costly turnovers in the final minutes that eventually did the Tigers in. Monday night Delaware stormed from behind to defeat the Tribe by 2 as a last second shot by Marcus Thornton bounced off the back of the rim.

In retrospect, the Tigers led by Benimon completed a miraculous turn around season under the tutelage of head coach Pat Skerry. The Georgetown transfer has it all, the ability to score inside and out, the court vision to be a great passer, and the toughness to rebound. It was a real pleasure to watch him the 6 games I attended.
