Wondo Oh Wondo What Could Have Been—USA Knocked out 2-1 by a Superior Belgium Squad

For me the World Cup ended last night as the USA was eliminated.  What always amazes me is how a team doesn’t wake up until it’s almost eliminated from victory.

Coach Jurgin Klinsmann once again pushed the right buttons. First inserting controversial addition to the squad Julian Greene during OT when the game seemed lost. The 19 year old responded with a goal from a beautiful assist from Michael Bradley. Then the miraculous free kick set piece play with just a few minutes left when Dempsey’s shot was blocked away.

The US Hero?–Goalie Tim Howard who single handedly kept the US in the game with 12 saves in regulation. Howard finished with 16 saves but eventually gave way to the onslaught of 1 on 1 shots.

Now for what could have been.  After being thoroughly dominated but still in a 0-0 game, Chris Wondolowski had a point blank shot for a goal but missed. That would have been a miracle win for the USA.

But at the end of the day the team performed brilliantly fighting tooth and nail to the very bitter end. Exactly how we would expect a USA team to battle.

Well done USA.
