Cudjoe-Virgil Name to the Dick Butkus Watch List

University of Maryland senior linebacker Yannik Cudjoe-Virgil has been named to the 30th annual Butkus Award Watch List, which honors the nation’s top linebacker, the Butkus Foundation announced Monday.

Cudjoe-Virgil is one of 51 players to earn a spot on the watch list and one of four Big Ten linebackers to be recognized.

The Baltimore native, who had his 2013 season cut short due to injury, totaled 3.5 tackles for loss and three sacks in six games last season. He also posted 18 tackles and one interception.

Cudjoe-Virgil had a breakout performance at Connecticut in Maryland’s third contest of the season when he finished with seven tackles, three tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks to help the Terps defeat the Huskies, 32-21.

E.J. Henderson is the only Maryland linebacker to win the award having received the honor in 2002. To view the complete Butkus Award Watch List, visit thebutkusaward.com.
