Even though he made one of the dumbest plays I have ever seen at the end of the 1st half, I will not put the blame of this loss on the shoulders of Joe Flacco. Dropsies is a disease that inflicted the Ravens yesterday. The biggest 2 culprits were Steve Smith and Jacobi.
Jacobi dropped a sure TD pass in the 1st half after Joe made a spectacular pass falling backwards. He then dropped 2 more in the 2nd half, as well as muffling a punt. Not his best day for sure.
Steve Smith’s drops were unbelievable. He was wide open after the blocked FG and possibly could have scored. However he certainly made up for that with his TD catch on the busted play. You had to love Smith throwing Pac Man to the ground.
But what befuddles me the most is how flat the Ravens came out. This was the Division Champions we were playing. The Ravens were at home. The Bengals ended our season last year. I just don’t get it. Maybe Ray Lewis should have been honored before the game and he could have spurred the team on. Why in the world do you play 4 exhibition games and never practice the offense we saw.
Did Elvis Dumervil play? Seriously.
The Good
By the time we got the offense rolling, it looked great. Torrey, Forsett, Aiken, and Pitta all played well. The running game was certainly better. The Kubiak era is a work in progress but now there is no more learning curve. The Steelers are in town Thursday and another division loss could finish the Ravens for this year.
Let’s give the defense credit. They bent but never broke until the bomb to AJ Greene.
So in summary:
The Ravens come out flat.
They fall behind in what seems to be a hopeless situation.
The offense is forced to throw the ball 62 times.
They get the lead
The opposition scores on its last drive to win the game.
It’s Groundhog Day vintage 2013.
