The eighth-ranked Maryland women’s basketball team was edged out by Washington State, 70-64, Saturday as the Terps’ late rally fell short in the final minutes in the match in the San Juan Shootout.
Sophomore Brionna Jones led the Terrapins (6-1) with a career-high 23 points. Laurin Mincy added 13 points, including 11 in the second half, with a team-high five assists.
Lia Galdiera scored 33 points to tie her career-high for the Cougars (5-2).
“Washington State played a flawless game,” head coach Brenda Frese said. “I thought they competed hard for 40 minutes. They did a tremendous job defensively and were really, really aggressive on us. They made it hard for us to get into any kind of rhythm offensively.”
