Maryland junior forward Jake Layman earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday. This marks the second conference honor for Layman, who garnered co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors on Dec. 22.
Layman, who averaged 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds, led No. 14 Maryland (17-2, 5-1 B1G) to a pair of wins over Rutgers and Michigan State last week. A junior from Wrentham, Mass., Layman posted a career-best 13 rebounds and added 12 points in the win over the Scarlet Knights and followed with a season-high 23 points and 12 rebounds against the Spartans. For the season, Layman is averaging 14.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game and has a team-best four double-doubles.
