No use for much commentary on this game –it was a disaster. Turgeon said post game he doesn’t believe he ever had a team out rebounded (51-32) so badly.
I was worried after the Northwestern game when the Terps were outplayed for 37 minutes. Tonight Maryland was just out toughed. Really never in the game after 15 all.
Freshman guard D’Angelo Russell was sensational tonight with 18 points and 14 rebounds. The Big Ten’s best 3 point shooter, Marc Loving, proved why tonight going 5-5 on treys but why was he so wide open?
I’ve said it many times a team is never as bad as it looks when losing. But I am definitely worried coming into next Wednesday’s game against a Penn State team that is playing much better.
Some thoughts on what Coach Turgeon might do:
Start Jon Graham at the 5, at least Jon has been able to rebound well.
Or Start Smotrycz at the 5–not a great alternative but at least he can score and get in the offensive flow.
Try a small lineup–of Melo, Nickens, Wiley, Dez, and Smotrycz at least to start the game to try and get the offense motoring. Poor starts are hurting the Terps.
Drive the bucket at all costs. As the season wears on, outside shooting percentage is falling.
I said earlier in the year 11-7 would be a great Conference record for this team.
