Today’s game was not Big Ten Basketball at its Best
Not much to say after another humiliating loss on the road but:
17-2 after 11 minutes–is that even conceivable–2 points?
Today’s game shows how ridiculous criticism of Melo’s shooting has been–he was 7-12 from the field with 20 points and had 4 foul shot attempts taken from him. Take away Melo’s line and the Terps shot 11-38 from the field or 29%
Some ugly stats from an ugly game
Wiley 1-5
Nickens 0-4
Pack 1-8
Jake 1-4
Dez 6 first half turnovers–that’s 6
By the way that was Adam Woodbury’s 3rd poke in the eye this year. Iowa coach Fran Maccaffery was infuriated when he was quizzed about this. Here’s an excerpt from Sporting News.com
Iowa center Adam Woodbury is at it again.
Three weeks ago against Wisconsin, Woodbury poked both Frank Kaminsky and Nigel Hayes in the eye.
His actions, while accidental, drew the ire of broadcaster Dan Dakich, who lashed out at the junior center, calling him “a coward.”
Hawkeyes head coach Fran McCaffery was not pleased with Dakich’s comments, leading to the university adding extra security when the Badgers made the return trip to Iowa City.
On Sunday against Maryland, Woodbury once again had his hands up in the face of an opposing player, this time freshman Melo Trimble.
Woodbury has become enemy No. 1 in the midwest because of his actions, and it seems about time he learned how to play defense without poking his opponent’s eyes. But it seems like the university might have a better idea.
Players are tought to keep their hands up when defending a ballhandler, and typically, when that player is a shooter, you want to use your hand to block their line of sight. But considering this is Woodbury’s third indiscretion in as many weeks, it’s difficult to continue to write it off as “accidental.”
